In my small town, churches, neighbours, and people from all walks of life are preparing to raise enough funds in the next couple of weeks to apply to the Anglican Diocese which has many in roads to sponsorship. The Richmond Village Refugee Welcome has a meeting with the local High School and we expect a lot of $$'s from the students and their initiatives. From what I have heard so far $4,000 (approx.) has been raised. Lots of fundraiser plans are being worked on for the coming months. Our goal is $30,000 as we will not be relying on the government. Wishing you well with your endeavours. God bless. While the Canadian church officially explores topic of becoming a Sponsorship Agreement Holder, could you in the meantime provide more details, so that it is clearer for those contemplating sponsorship? For instance, how did you find your Sponsorship Agreement Holder (make this general enough for all provinces)? What steps briefly followed? Etc. Again, great work, and thank you!Rod Downinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11685493823037822669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480403878902135681.post-46474466722058759832015-10-08T09:41:25.734-04:002015-10-08T09:41:25.734-04:00I agree that God loves us all, and that too many o...I agree that God loves us all, and that too many of us turn our heads to the poor, sick, and marginalized. However, I also believe that those of us preaching God's word must ensure to be personally living it. This means that not only do we focus on being truthful, honest, compassionate, and honourable -- but that we follow all rules - whether that means reporting all of our taxable income to Revenue Canada, or returning the incorrect amount of change if a cashier made a mistake -- it is shameful to place ourselves above sinners when we sin ourselves.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480403878902135681.post-29756490950640514412015-05-21T15:58:10.313-04:002015-05-21T15:58:10.313-04:00Kerry, I am impressed at your sustained output as ...Kerry, I am impressed at your sustained output as a blogger. I would like to see 200 or so comments on some of the thought provoking posts you have shared with us. We should be discussing these things.

Blogs are fairly new, but we have lots of computer users who could be participating in this sort of exchange. Although commenting on a blog will never replace face-to-face conversation, here you can take your time, do some reading, and let your thoughts mature a bit before publishing them for everyone to see. There is no forum like it, and we should be using it to move things along.

There are also some hazards to blogging. Once you have posted a comment, readers can come back to it years later and take your words as continuing to represent you. In fact our opinions morph constantly, which is the very reason we engage in the give and take of discussion, to improve the quality of our thinking. So, this is who I am at 3:43 PM on 2015-05-21. You can expect I will have moved on a bit if you talk to me next week. Give me room to change and I will happily engage in this dialogue.

Another problem with blogs: try as I may, I cannot always suppress the passions that motivate my words. I have to guard against writing anything hurtful or disrespectful, and if anyone else does as much, I have to say I understand because I have been tempted myself.

Yet the risk is justified by the benefit. We are able to think because we have language, and we have language because we have each other. (I am paraphrasing Joseph Heath in his book “Enlightenment 2.0”). Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am”. Descartes put himself before the horse. He should have said “You are, therefore I think”. Because your existence defines me I will risk this dialogue. I hope there are others who feel that way, and we can make some progress together.
Dennishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14311866705573926281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480403878902135681.post-73414866573085567002015-05-20T09:30:14.049-04:002015-05-20T09:30:14.049-04:00Welcome. I appreciate your openness to recognizing that we can learn from one another. I once when reading comments from a forum on the Palestinian issue, copied and pasted almost 200 comments into a word document to keep it for reference. The diversity of viewpoints was so rich and I felt greatly informed on a subject that I felt very inadequate to discuss. Our church along with most has many tough questions to discuss. We need to learn how to talk better and provide ongoing opportunities to learn this process in families, small groups and larger forums. Thanks for your comment Dennis. When I hear an impassioned presentation of a particular point of view I have a reflex "Yes but" reaction. Not that I am always ready for a debate, but I do want to hear lots of relevant information from different perspectives before settling my own opinion. I am impressed that the C of C is now a place for learning how to reach informed consensus. If we can replace partisan politics, ideological polarization, and manipulative rhetoric with respectful exchange of views, learning from each other, and making better decisions, well then I would like to be part of that.Dennishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14311866705573926281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480403878902135681.post-45475825755349736672015-02-14T07:38:33.215-05:002015-02-14T07:38:33.215-05:00Well said, Kerry. Do people have to measure up to our standards before we will assist them?

Jesus taught us to do things for everyone as we all are created equal in His fathers eyes. Yes some never come to church, but once they find Jesus in their lives, most of them spread the word of what life with Christ in it, has done for them.

I pray for people that feel it is their money and not just given/loaned to us by God. Money to be utilized for His work and not controlled for our own personal needs. Have we forgotten that it is not our church it is God's church.

I think the passage is "
D. C. 163 1. “Community of Christ,” your name, given as a divine blessing, is your identity and calling. If you will discern and embrace its full meaning, you will not only discover your future, you will become a blessing to the whole creation. You and I have the opportunity to interact with World Church leaders regularly, but not everyone does. That interaction makes us aware of the need to also uphold our leaders in prayerful support as they wrestle with problems around the world. The burdens our leaders carry on behalf of the church in the service of all God's people are often more than any of us realize or expect. I invite all our members and friends to include prayerful support for our leaders and members around the world as part of our daily spiritual practice, whatever form that practice may take.

CarmanCarmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07686168556846924176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480403878902135681.post-58253342305619235152013-12-11T11:19:57.349-05:002013-12-11T11:19:57.349-05:00I thankfully have been advised by 2 brilliant acco...I thankfully have been advised by 2 brilliant accountants that I only provided the Federal tax credits and not the Ontario (which will vary for other provinces in CEM) tax credits. It is a way we as regular members and friends of the church can help make a difference during time of crisis or natural disasters. Once again just this month, that fund has been drawn on to quickly assist people in India and the Philippines whose homes were destroyed by floods. Your caring helped make that possible.

Regarding your comment that oblation assistance was not there for you when you needed it, I would not know about this specific case because all requests for support are dealt with in strict confidentiality. Even were I aware of it, however, it would be inappropriate to respond in a public forum such as this. Should you feel you would like to talk about it further, I would invite you to contact the CEM financial officer to discuss it privately and confidentially.
